Currently, I-27 is an intrastate 2di located entirely in the state of Texas, running 123 miles from Lubbock to Amarillo. However, there is an ambitious project underway called the Ports to Plains Corridor that may extend it south towards San Angelo, Midland/Odessa and even Laredo, and north towards Denver, CO. Here's a northbound cruise on what's already there:
Starting just south of Lubbock, at the southern side of the Loop 289 beltway.
The Marsha Sharp Freeway was named in honor of the legendary women's basketball coach at Texas Tech University.
Meeting the northern side of Loop 289.
Who wouldn't want to live in a town called Happy?
Loop 335 is currently a nonlimited access beltway around Amarillo; however, several upgrades are being planned for it. It may become a prelude to I-27 being extended to the north and finally going to somewhere that's not in Texas; we'll just have to wait and see about that.
I-27 ends here at I-40, and to the north is a series of one-way streets that serve downtown. After that, another freeway continues to the north. Perhaps all that will become part of an extended I-27? I-78 in Jersey City might become the inspiration for this, because it also runs on surface streets for a distance.
A showcase of the highways in North America. Includes the 48 continental United States, Canada, Alaska and Hawaii.
