Taking a westbound trip on I-66:
The first of two left exits in D.C.
Here's the second left exit. Those were probably set up that way because the river is on the right side. If I'm not mistaken, I-695 was going to continue south of here, and act as a connector to I-295 firther east.
If you're planning to enter Maryland, this is the exit you must take. And not only that, it's one way to get to Dulles, as well as the best way from the District and pretty much anywhere else near the Beltway to Dulles.
As expected, it's a southbound exit only.
The journey ends at I-81. Sure, you'll run into lots and lots of truck traffic, but on the upside, you'll get to enjoy the views of the Appalachians.
